Inflammation is the body’s normal response to surgery, which involves the production of local tissue fluid that contributes to swelling. Swelling causes pain and any methods of preventing swelling will act to reduce pain. Where appropriate, Chris will use a small dose of localised steroid injection to reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. This is particularly important in facial surgery.

Cooling the area has the same beneficial effects on inflammation. Hilotherapy is the useful utilisation of cooled fluid, through a face-mask, after facial surgery to prevent swelling and speed up recovery. It can be organised in your home at a small additional cost.
